NBC’s NFL Season Opens Strong

NBC scored a touchdown with the return of the NFL to the network.

The NFL regular-season kickoff game averaged 19.3 million viewers, making it the most-watched Thursday night season opener since the league began opening the season on weeknights in 2002.

The Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers’ win over the Miami Dolphins drew a 12.6 rating and 21 share, up from last year’s opener on ABC, which drew an 11.7/21, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The game drew a 50.6 rating and 67 share in Pittsburgh and a 22.7/32 in Miami.
