Verizon signaled that it plans to use interactive television features as a competitive advantage with the news that it has hired a new director of interactive TV.

Rachelle Zoffer, who has worked at Sofitel-USA, ShadowTV and Disney, will acquire interactive programming for the telco. The new post is indicative of Verizon’s plans to expand its interactive slate of content and offer interactive features in the future for reality shows, sporting events, newscasts, quiz shows and shopping channels.

In June, Verizon launched its first interactive service that provides real-time weather and traffic information via the remote control.
