ABC once again enjoyed a Tuesday night dual victory anchored by “Dancing With the Stars.”

The network scored a 4.6 rating among adults 18 to 49 and 10.4 household rating, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research figures, winning the night in both categories.

The 90-minute “Dancing” came on strong at 8 p.m. with a 5.9, representing the show’s third-largest audience ever. The viewership boosted ABC’s freshman Ted Danson comedy “Help Me Help You” and “Boston Legal,” which were up over the previous week.

Still, “Help” only scored a 3.3, leaving it in fourth place for the 9:30 p.m. slot. “Boston” earned the same rating.

NBC was second place in the demo due to the veteran “Law & Order” franchise, with stalwarts “Criminal Intent” (3.7) and “SVU” (4.8) holding their own. The new drama “Friday Night Lights” is still underperforming with a 2.7, but that figure represents a rebound last week to match its premiere.

Over on CBS, the procedural salvo of “NCIS” (3.8) “The Unit” (3.7) and “Criminal Minds” (3.1) held steady.

Major League Baseball on Fox stirred to life with Game 5 of the National League Championship Series (3.4), which was on par with last year’s fifth game and won all key male demos.

The CW’s “Gilmore Girls” and “Veronica Mars” were strong performers, with “Mars” matching its second-best numbers ever (1.4) and “Gilmore” rating a 2.0.
