The return of controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens to Philadelphia produced a ratings touchdown for Fox Sports.

The loss of Mr. Owens’ new team, the Dallas Cowboys, to the Eagles on Sunday generated a 13.9 Nielsen Media Research household rating and a 28 share and was watched by 22.1 million total viewers. The ratings are up 29 percent over the fifth game of last season and outdrew NBC’s Sunday prime-time game, which featured the San Diego Chargers and the NFL champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

For the week, Fox’s Cowboys-Eagles tilt was the second-highest-rated program in all dayparts, finishing second only to ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.”

So far this season, Fox is having its highest ratings with the NFL since it began covering football. Fox’s national games are averaging a 13.5/27, up 11 percent from last year.
