Universal Music Sues Video-Sharing Sites

Universal Music Group has sued two video-sharing sites, alleging illegal use of its music videos.

The music label filed lawsuits in U.S. District Court against Grouper.com and Bolt.com for copyright infringement. Sony purchased Grouper in August for $65 million.

Popular video-sharing sites are rife with music videos from the music labels and lawsuits like this have been expected. To stem illegal use, Universal Music Group last week struck a deal with YouTube enabling YouTube users to access the label’s clips legally in exchange for sharing ad revenue.
