On the next episode of MTV’s “The Real World,” alcohol fuels a misunderstanding between roommates who are just getting to know each other, said Jonathan Murray, the show’s creator.

In his first outing on TVWeek.com’s Producer Shop Talk feature, Mr. Murray discusses why the new season is proving as popular as ever, even if some ratings are coming in lower.

The cast members are off to a fast start in this year’s Denver house, with Colie and Alex looking to hook up almost as soon as they set eyes on each other. Mr. Murray explains the match, saying every season offers surprises on the unscripted show.
