The CEO and founder of online video site Guba.com left the company earlier this month to “actively pursue his hobbies,” Guba said officially.

Thomas McInerney founded Guba in 1998. He had previously worked as an engineer for Apple Computer and also worked at Sony before starting Guba. Guba’s Web site said Mr. McInerney built the company’s first server from parts on his kitchen floor.

Eric Lambrecht, the co-founder and chief technology officer, is the company’s acting spokesperson, Guba said.

Guba’s service includes TV shows and movies to buy. The site had originally been a magnet for adult content, but like many other viral video sites, Guba recently made efforts to clean up its act. However, the site does not draw a ton of eyeballs. In recent months, the number of unique visitors per month has hovered below 300,000 a month, according to Nielsen Net Ratings.

Mr. McInerney officially left the company Dec. 19.
