Peter Boyle Dead at 71

“Everybody Loves Raymond” actor Peter Boyle has died at the age of 71.

Mr. Boyle is best known for playing Ray Romano’s father on “Raymond” and as The Monster in Mel Brooks’ 1974 spoof “Young Frankenstein.”

He died Tuesday evening in New York. The actor suffered from multiple myeloma and heart disease, according to wire reports. Mr. Boyle portrayed Frank Barone for 10 years on “Raymond” and was nominated seven times for an Emmy. He won the Emmy in 1996 for his guest appearance in “The X Files” as a psychic who knows how people will die.

Mr. Boyle was a Christian Brothers monk who left the order to become an actor. He first gained stardom as a violent factory worker in the 1970 film “Joe.”
