Some people like Bears and others prefer Colts, but everyone loves puppies.

Animal Planet plans to kick off “Puppy Bowl III” when most TV viewers are getting ready for the Super Bowl on Feb. 4 from 3-6 p.m. ET.

Many of the young dogs featured in the game come from the Animal Rescue League and other shelters in the Washington, D.C. area. Viewers interested in adopting pets can tune into Animal Planet’s Petfinder.com Web site.

Viewers will also be able to vote for the Puppy Bowl’s MVP-or most valuable puppy-on Animalplanet.com. The winner will be announced after the game.

Kittens will be featured during the Bissell Kitty Half Time Show. In addition to Bissell, sponsors include Pedigree and Subaru.

“Since it first aired in 2004, viewers of all ages connect with “Puppy Bowl” in a unique way and now look forward to making it part of their Super Bowl festivities every year, and we do our best to keep it fresh and entertaining,” said Maureen Smith, Animal Planet Media Enterprises executive VP and general manager. “This special is adorable, and fun to watch, while it informs viewers about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets and the need for adoption of homeless pets.”
