HBO Leads SAG Award Nominations

HBO collected the most nominations for the 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, garnering 10 while ABC and NBC each pocketed eight.

AMC’s “Broken Trail” miniseries and HBO’s mob drama “The Sopranos” both earned three nominations, the most for primetime television programs, the Guild announced Thursday. Fox’s “24” and ABC “Grey’s Anatomy” were among 11 programs to receive two total nominations.

James Gandolfini once again was nominated for best male actor in a drama series for his role in “The Sopranos.” “House’s” Hugh Laurie, “24’s” Keifer Sutherland, “Dexter’s” Michael C. Hall and “Boston Legal’s” James Spader were among the other contenders in the category.”Medium” star Patricia Arquette, “Law & Order: SVU’s” Mariska Hargitay, “The Closer’s” Kyra Sedgwick, “Grey’s Anatomy’s” Chandra Wilson and “The Soprano’s” Edie Falco are all up for best female actor in a drama series.

For outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series, the Guild nominated Alec Baldwin for “30 Rock,” Steve Carrell for “The Office,” Jason Lee for “My Name is Earl,” Jeremy Piven for “Entourage” and Tony Shalhoub for “Monk.”

In the female comedy category, newcomer America Ferrera earned a nomination for her role on ABC’s “Ugly Betty.” “Desperate Housewives'” co-star Felicity Huffman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus of “The New Adventures of Old Christine”, “Will & Grace’s” Megan Mullally, “Weeds'” Mary-Louise Parker and “My Name is Earl’s” Jaime Pressly also gathered nods.

Jeremy Irons earned his first SAG nomination, taking his place among contenders for outstanding performance by a male actor in a television movie or miniseries for his role in HBO’s “Elizabeth I.” “Broken Trail” actors Thomas Hayden Church and Robert Duvall were also recognized in this category.

In the female actor category, Annette Benning will be up against her fellow “Mrs. Harris” co-stars, Cloris Leachman and Greta Scacchi.

The SAG Awards will be simulcast live on Sunday, Jan 28 on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. EST.
