NBC managed to trump college football Tuesday night thanks to a pair of workhorse police procedurals. NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and “Law & Order: SVU,” returning from hiatus, both scored against a field of reruns and Fox’s FedEx Orange Bowl: Louisville vs. Wake Forest.

The Peacock Network easily led the night with a 4.1 average among adults 18 to 49 according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research ratings, with “Criminal Intent” earning a 4.1 and SVU a 5.2. Over on second-place Fox, the Orange Bowl averaged a disappointing 3.6. Without “House,” it was the first time Fox had not won a Tuesday in six weeks.

In third place, CBS had a trio of police repeats that averaged a 2.5. ABC had a mix, with a rerun of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (2.7), two “Big Day” originals (1.8 and 1.7) and a “Boston Legal” repeat (1.5).

The CW came in last with repeats of “Gilmore Girls” and “Veronica Mars” that averaged 0.8.
