Alex Romanelli has been named TelevisionWeek’s Internet director.
Mr. Romanelli comes to TVWeek from Variety, where he worked since 2004 as editor of Variety.com. His accomplishments there include quadrupling the site’s Web traffic.
Along the way, Mr. Romanelli’s work won honors from the American Society of Business Publication Editors, the Los Angeles Press Club, the Web Marketing Association, W3 and Folio. It also garnered nominations for Webby and Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism awards.
“Alex brings TVWeek demonstrated expertise in using the Web to cover a rapidly changing industry,” said TelevisionWeek Editor Greg Baumann. “His vision of how to do journalism on the Web and his eagerness to innovate will only serve to increase the popularity of TVWeek.com among television executives and TV aficionados.”
Prior to running Variety.com, Mr. Romanelli was a news editor on the site, and before that, he was an editor at ElectronicNews.com, which covered the computer-chip industry in Silicon Valley.
“I’m excited by the opportunity to join TVWeek at a time when the Internet is playing an increasingly important role in defining the future of television,” Mr. Romanelli said. “As Internet director I look forward to helping TVWeek.com break new ground in Web journalism.”
