Hearst-Argyle Television hired Sarah Smith as president and general manager of ABC affiliate KETV-TV in Omaha, Neb. She succeeds Joel Vilmenay, who became president and general manager of WDSU-TV, the company’s NBC affiliate in New Orleans.

“The stations she managed in her most recent general manager role have flourished under her leadership, and her accomplishments over the past few years indicate her readiness to take on the wonderful opportunity to lead KETV,” Hearst-Argyle President and CEO David Barrett said in Thursday’s announcement. “Sarah shares our company’s vision and values for local television.”

Most recently Smith served as VP and general manager of KRCR-TV and KAEF-TV, BlueStone Television stations serving Chico-Redding and Eureka, Calif., respectively. KRCR became the local ratings leader while KAEF substantially expanded its audience. She also served with the Belo television group as sales executive at stations in Austin, Texas. Dallas, and Sacramento, Calif.; and LIN Television in Indianapolis. She began her career as a local account executive for Belo’s KOTV, Tulsa, before moving to Los Angeles as an account executive for Telerep.
