Two weeks after ABC’s “Lost” returned from hiatus to disappointing viewership, CBS’s “Jericho” returned from its two-and-a-half-month break Wednesday night to post a season low.

“Jericho” had a 2.4 rating among adults 18 to 49, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research figures, down 23 percent from its prior season average. Unlike when it debuted last fall, however, “Jericho” was up against “American Idol” for the first time and managed to place second for the 8 p.m. hour.

The two-hour “Idol” easily ruled the night, bouncing back from Tuesday night’s performance to garner a 12.2.

“Lost” matched last week’s series low, although it still won the 10 p.m. hour by 39 percent over “CSI: NY” (4.1).

By network, Fox led, followed by CBS. Aside from “Jericho” and “CSI,” the Eye network had “Criminal Minds” (4.0). ABC came in third, with “George Lopez” (2.2) and “Knights of Prosperity” (1.6) in the 8 p.m. hour.

NBC placed fourth, with three shows posting their lowest ratings to date: “Friday Night Lights” (1.8), “Deal or No Deal” (2.2) and “Medium” (2.5).

The CW aired a “Beauty and the Geek” reunion (1.3) and “One Tree Hill” (1.5).
