MobiTV Touts Subscriber Increase

Mobile video company MobiTV said it doubled its subscriber base in less than one year and now counts more than 2 million customers worldwide.

The growth is due in part to new content deals, overseas expansion and the additional $100 million in funding the company landed last year, the company said in a Wednesday press release.

MobiTV’s growth underscores the increasing consumer interest in watching TV and video on cellular phones. The company, which competes with mobile video services from the big cell phone carriers such as Verizon and Cingular, offers more than 40 channels in the United States, many of which are live streams of cable networks.
