ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” returned to its best premiere ratings ever Monday night, waltzing past the competition.

The two-hour program scored a 6.3 rating among adults 18 to 49, according to Nielsen. That’s up 11 percent from its September premiere, and up a strong 31 percent from its last January premiere.

“Dancing” easily won the night for ABC, but few viewers stuck around for 10 p.m.’s “What About Brian,” which scored a 2.8.

Fox was second, with “Prison Break” (3.4) matching its second lowest rating to date and “24” holding steady (4.7) from last week’s season low.

On CBS, the comedy block returned with original episodes, but the impact of “Dancing” was apparent. “How I Met Your Mother” hit a season low (2.9), while “Old Christine” was on the low side (2.5). “Two and a Half Men” (4.0) and the season finale of “Rules of Engagement” (3.6) delivered their lowest ratings of the season. At 10 p.m., “CSI: Miami” (5.3) won the hour.

In fourth, NBC had a two-hour “Deal or No Deal” (4.2), followed by “The Black Donnellys” (2.4), which continues to slide.

The CW aired originals of its comedy block, which averaged a 1.0 rating.
