ESPN Leads in Sports Emmy Nominations With 26

ESPN copped 26 sports Emmy nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, putting it ahead of its closest competitor, NBC, which garnered 24 nods.

Other TV outlets in the double digits at the end of the Thursday announcement of nominations were HBO with 16, CBS with 14, Fox with 13 and ABC with 10. Don Ohlmeyer, former NBC West Coast president will receive a lifetime achievement award at the awards ceremony on April 30 at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Other contenders include the NFL Network with nine nominations, TNT with seven, Fox Sports Net, ESPN.com and ESPN2 with 3 nods each, and CBSSportsline.com, TNT on NBA.com and NASCAR Images with two each. Beingstanley.com, Chicagotribune.com, Dewactionsportstour.com, Dsc.discovery.com/mobile, ESPN Classic, MLB.com, Race2Replace.com, Rush HD Sports.yahoo.com, The Biography Channel, and USA each garnered one nomination.

The most-nominated programs were NBC Sports’ Torino Olympics coverage with 10 and HBO’s “Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel” with five.
