MySpace News Portal in the Works

Development continues at Fox Interactive Media on a MySpace News portal that will aggregate items in real time from various sites and blogs.

By introducing interactivity that fosters discussion about and the rating of items posted, MySpace News will add another level of social networking and targeted advertiser appeal to the site, which already is the leading Web address for gregarious young people.

MySpace is tight-lipped about its plans, but after publishing a leaked sales document recently, Lost Remote’s Terry Heaton said, “MySpace is currently cutting deals with content providers … it’s likely the process will show us what types of ‘news’ will be of interest to young people, circa 2007.”

A spokeswoman for Fox Interactive Media declined to comment on MySpace News plans, which are said to include no video elements, at least in the early stages, and no media partner. The launch is expected in the second quarter of this year.
