NBC Adopts ‘Baby’ for Fall Lineup

NBC has ordered its own version of a popular U.K. reality show in which teen couples get a crash course in child care.

NBC greenlighted six episodes of “The Baby Borrowers” and plans to add it to its fall schedule. “Borrowers,” produced by Love Productions, would give NBC a second fall reality show in addition to ongoing series “The Biggest Loser.”

In “The Baby Borrowers,” couples between 16 and 19 adopt an infant for three days, then a toddler, then a pre-teen, then a teenager.

The U.K. version of “Baby” caused some initial controversy among parenting groups. But the BBC assured viewers the production crew would have a child-care specialist on hand at all times to intervene if necessary.

NBC declined to comment.

In other NBC programming news, the network announced the creation of “newpeats” for its Thursday night staple “The Office.” The newpeats re-edit two half-hour “Office” episodes into an hourlong version with extra footage. The newpeats start airing March 15.

Also, on March 29, NBC will air an “Office” marathon hosted by the show’s co-executive producer-writer-actor Toby Flenderson.
