News Corp. has appointed Emiliano Calemzuk, president of Fox International Channels Italy, to take the reins at Fox Television Studios, the company announced Monday.

The news comes two weeks after Fox Studios president Angela Shapiro-Mathes defected to cable network TLC, where she will serve as president and general manager.

Since 2002, the Rome-based Mr. Calemzuk has led Fox International Channels Italy, including Fox, FX, National Geographic, Fox Life and Fox Crime.

“Emiliano is a talented executive who has helped build a very strong profile for Fox channels throughout Europe and Latin America,” said Peter Chernin, president and chief operating officer of News Corp., to whom Mr. Calemzuk will report. “He’s accomplished this in large part due to his keen eye for programming and alternative genres. We’re confident he’ll bring a unique perspective to FTVS and we’re excited for him to get started.”

Mr. Calemzuk joined News Corp. in 1998 as associate director of marketing and promotions for Fox Latin America. He became general manager of Fox Kids Latin America in 2000 and is credited with turning the channel around.

“FTVS was, at its inception, an ‘alternative’ studio, and with so many emerging technologies and business models in entertainment, this is a perfect time to live up to that moniker,” Mr. Calemzuk said. “I look forward to getting to know the FTVS team in Los Angeles and abroad, and to working with the entire community.”
