ABC’s “Good Morning America,” NBC’s “Today” and “Live With Regis and Kelly” are nominated for Daytime Emmys in the first-time category of morning television programming.

The new Emmy will go to the hosts and the producer of the winning show during the national broadcast of the 34th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, to air live at 9 p.m. EDT Friday, June 15, from the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.

“We believe the popular network morning shows deserve their own category in the Daytime Emmy Awards,” Peter Price, president and CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said in the announcement Wednesday. NATAS presents the Daytime Emmys.

“Individual segments on the morning shows have often won News & Documentary Emmy Awards, but the morning programs have seldom won Daytime Emmy Awards when they have to compete against the full day’s talk shows,” Mr. Price added. “The morning shows are a special breed and deserve their own recognition in the Daytime Emmy Awards.”
