“The Hills” are alive for a third season, MTV announced Thursday, bringing with it the return of “The Hills After-Show,” a set of Web-only videos made for hardcore fans who want to know more about each character.

Lois Current, president of entertainment and programming for MTV, said the show’s second-season success affirms the network’s strategy to “engage viewers across all screens,” which currently includes additional video clips via MTV Mobile and in-world interaction with other fans and cast members through Virtual Hills.

“The approach we’ve taken with ‘The Hills’ reaffirms that our audience is embracing the touch points we’ve created for them to stay immersed in the shows they love,” said Ms. Current.

The third season is slated to premiere this summer.
