CBS won Thursday night in the Nielsen ratings, with “Shark” besting “ER” for the first time in the 10 p.m. hour.

CBS topped the preliminary rankings in both adults 18 to 49 and total viewers, with “Survivor” (4.4 rating among adults 18 to 49), “CSI” (a season-low 6.6) and “Shark” (4.0).

ABC came in second with a clip show for “Ugly Betty” (2.4) and a surprisingly strong clip show for “Grey’s Anatomy” (5.0). At 10 p.m., the preview/premiere of “Notes From the Underbelly” scored a 3.7, tying “ER” in the hour for second place.

NBC’s comedy block had new episodes of “My Name Is Earl” (3.1), “The Office” (4.1), “30 Rock” (2.6) and “Scrubs” (2.7). At 10 p.m., “ER” hit a series low (3.7).

On Fox, “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” seems to have hit a plateau (3.4); it was followed by a repeat of the quiz show.

On The CW, the only original program was “The Brick Awards,” which was honored with a mere 0.4.
