The setup: Let this serve as a reminder to pay your rent on time, lest you, too, endure the wrath of a foul-mouthed, hard-drinking landlord. Especially one who wears a cute little blue and yellow ruffled dress. Will Ferrell’s down on his luck, out of work and late on the rent again. But his toddler landlord, Pearl, doesn’t care. She’ll evict him anyway, she warns.
The source: FunnyOrDie.com launched in mid-April as a project created by Gary Sanchez Productions, the production company owned by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and funded by venture capital firm Sequoia Partners. The site includes videos featuring Mr. Ferrell, such as “The Landlord,” and also lets viewers upload videos. The site’s users vote on which videos are funny and which are banished to “the crypt” to die. Mr. McKay’s toddler daughter plays the landlord.
The hits: By April 18, the video had generated more than 2 million views on FunnyOrDie.com and another 200,000 on YouTube.
