NBC is working on a new dance-themed competition series with reality producers Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller, to be hosted by “Lord of the Dance” Michael Flatley.
The series, tentatively titled “Superstar Dancers of the World,” will bring together teams of dancers from eight countries representing several different dance styles for a shot at being named an international superstar. The show will feature performances in addition to stories of the dancers’ journey and preparation for the competition.
“This is the most challenging and exhilarating project I’ve ever done,” said Mr. Lythgoe. “We will bring to America different cultural styles of dancers—each performer the best in their genre—and the sheer mosaic of styles and energy is going to be nothing short of inspiring.”
Mr. Lythgoe and Mr. Fuller will serve as executive producers.
Among the countries expected to participate are Argentina, Australia, China, India, Ireland, Russia, South Africa and the United States. Each country will be represented by teams including two soloists, a duo and one larger group.
“Superstars” is expected to debut in early 2009.
