Obama to Accept Nomination at Mile High

Jul 7, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Barack Obama will break from tradition at the Democratic National Convention in August, leaving the convention hall to deliver his speech in a larger venue—Denver’s Mile High Stadium in Denver.
The move to INVESCO Field at Mile High may drum up interest in Illinois senator’s nationally televised final acceptance speech Aug. 28. The field can accommodate 75,000 people. Democrats said they are hopeful that by moving the speech, they can showcase Senator Obama’s broad appeal better.
“The Democratic Party is nominating a true change candidate this August, and it is only fitting that we make some big changes in how we put on the convention,” Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said in a statement.
Convention Co-Chair Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius said Mr. Obama’s campaign has inspired millions of Americans and brought people into the political process who might never have been involved.
“This change in the convention program will allow thousands of first-time participants a chance to take part. I can’t think of a better convention finale for our nominee who has made reaching out to voters a hallmark of his campaign,” she said.

  1. Is it my imagination or is Mr. Obama’s head swelling before our very eyes? Appeal to a larger audience? HA! This is about ego.

  2. Wow, I really hope Obama doesn’t win, I don’t want a new time Senator as my president. I want someone who’s actually worked in Gov’t and I don’t want to have to wait 2 years for a organ transplant if I get in a car wreck because of Nationalized Health Care. Some of his ideas are just ridiculously bad. He’s a good speaker but that’s about it.

  3. Since you asked, I think it is your imagination. My guess is that his campaign managers, strategic advisors, and/or the DNC are the ones who came up with the idea.
Also, if filling a stadium reflects an ego problem, then Billy Graham, the Denver Broncos, and Madonna need therapy…well, maybe not Madonna 🙂

  4. You think you will have to wait 2 years for an organ transplant? Wow – you are misinformed, it typically takes longer than that with our current system.
Dont buy the rhetoric about long waits for healthcare with a nationalized system…check out Europe, Canada for example – they dont wait long and if it was so terrible dont you think we would hear about it? protests? The people their are content with the system – and you know why??? They are healthy!!!

  5. Totally cool, Positive thinking people think positive, negative people live their life in strife. Life is good, it is about atitude!! Good atitude and side of smile,. Great food for thought.

  6. Bob must be a republican. They know their candidate could not possibly fill a football stadium, so they have to call it something negative to balance the fact that their time in the whitehouse is over. Let’s face it republicans, your religous agenda and fear inspiring rhetoric could only take you so far. The wave of the future is to change what has been destroying this country for the last 8 years.

  7. John do you know what’s been destroying the country the last 8 years? The giant craps I take at work. I believe it is the direct cause of the economic slow down we’re having. There’s no way anyone can work through that.

  8. Whatever he has to do to win – that’s what this is all about! Both parties need major improvement; Obama is NOT the answer. What change is he talking about anyway? Look at Obama’s tax plan; there’s some change; He’s a true socialist!

  9. I agree with you Bob, Shawn and Brian,
The only change we are going to have from BO is what’s left in our pockets after he strips our wallets.
John and Hank seem pretty illiterate, you obviously are quite un-educated or very well traveled. National healthcare in other countries is pathetic, that’s why people with money come to the us from those countries. BTW Hank, dude, attitude, not atitude. Yikes! The uneducated allowed to vote, scary. BO is a No Go, Fo Sho!

  10. Obama won’t be perfect, but he has a lot better chance of making good changes than McCain who is so enveloped by lobbyists, and for so many years. He’s an honorable man, like Obama, but if one thinks a substantial change is required to better serve the common man not the super-rich who have dominated Republican policy, the choice is clear.

  11. As a local news story, the move to Mile High will cost $3 million – added to the current funding shortfall of $14.3 million, the DNC is now $17+ million in the red for the convention. Only a politican can this as a wise and prudent financial decision that benefits the average American.

  12. You should wite a blog post about a recommendation of blogs for people like me. I stumbled upon your site last week when I was searching, but I’m not really into the blog thing. It’s not because I do not enjoy blogs, but more than likely due to the fact that I’m a little slow to them.

  13. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

  14. Interesting layout on your blog. I really enjoyed reading it and also I will be back to read more in the future.
