Fox gave a back-nine order to a new sitcom and now has given full-season orders to two new comedy series. The back-nine order for “The Cool Kids,” announced today by Michael Thorn, president of Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Co., means the series joins “Last Man Standing” with full-season orders.

Fox said the premiere of “The Cool Kids,” starring David Alan Grier, Martin Mull, Vicki Lawrence and Leslie Jordan, was broadcast’s most-watched Friday comedy debut in six years. The network also noted that the return of “Last Man Standing,” starring Tim Allen, ranks as television’s most-watched Friday comedy telecast in 15 years and Fox’s most-watched Friday entertainment telecast in 18 years.

The network said the all-new Friday comedy block has driven Fox to rank No. 1 on three consecutive Fridays.
