Primetime NFL Draft Coverage May Have Put a Dent in Network Nielsens

The first-ever primetime broadcast of the first round of the NFL Draft — on the NFL Network and ESPN — resulted in a big boost over last season’s coverage, reports NBC Sports.

The NFL Draft ratings were up 30 percent from last year, when it aired on a Saturday afternoon (4:00 p.m. EST), and the year before that when it aired on a Saturday at 3 p.m. EST.

The broadcast side suffered greatly, with a handful of shows pulling in series or season lows. "CSI," "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains," and "Community" grabbed a series ratings low, while "Private Practice" and "The Office" brought in a season low, The Wrap reports.

The second and third round of the NFL Draft will air tonight in primetime, too, on both ESPN and the NFL Network, with coverage wrapping up on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. EST.
