PBS’ "Nightly Business Report" has been sold to a private company headed by a former mixed martial arts manager, reports our friend Elizabeth Jensen in the New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.

The show had been owned by public station WPBT-TV in Miami, which completed the sale to the private company, NBR World Wide Inc., on Friday, the story says.

The price wasn’t disclosed and the purchase was disclosed to show’s staff on Wednesday. Mykalai Kontilai, who says mixed martial arts used to be "a hobby of mine for a short period of time," said he felt the program could be expanded and has been talking with international distributors, which could help the show attract more sponsors.

The program, which attracts about 500,000 viewers each night, has been recently struggling to find enough corporate underwriters, the story adds.
