ABC’s ‘Modern Family’ Continues Its Winning Ways in Wednesday Ratings

“Modern Family” was once again the top-rated show of Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough to push ABC ahead of CBS for the night, according to TVbytheNumbers.com.

CBS wound up with an average rating of 3.0 in the 18-49 demo for the evening, while ABC settled for second place with a 2.6. Fox was third with a 2.2 rating in 18-49, while NBC trailed with a 1.9.

The gap was wider in total viewers, with CBS winning the night with an average of 11.9 million to NBC’s 7.4 million and ABC’s 7.3 million.

At 8 p.m., Fox’s "Human Target" was back for its second season and started the night with a third-place 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, well behind CBS’s "Survivor" with a 3.5 and ABC’s "The Middle" and "Better With You," which had a 2.8 rating and a 2.3, respectively, in 18-49. NBC’s "Dateline" special about Prince William’s engagement had a 1.6 rating and CW’s "America’s Next Top Model" drew a 1.1, both in the 18-49 demographic.

At 9 p.m. "Modern Family" logged a 4.7 rating in the 18-49 demo and ABC’s "Cougar Town" had a 3.0, compared with CBS’s "Criminal Minds" with a 3.7. Fox’s "Hell’s Kitchen" had a 2.6 and NBC’s "Law & Order: SVU" drew a 2.1 rating, also in the 18-49 demographic. Coming in last for the hour was CW’s "Hellcats" with a 0.9.

At 10 p.m. CBS’s "The Defenders" and NBC’s "Law & Order: L.A." tied with ratings of 1.9 in the 18-49 demo, topping the ABC special “25 Years of Sexy: People’s Sexiest Man Alive,” which had a 1.5 in 18-49.
