Monday’s two-hour premiere of “The Bachelor” saw the latest installment of the ABC reality staple get off to a less than promising start for the network, with a 2.4 rating and 6 share in viewers 18-49 and 7.7 million viewers, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

That’s a drop from the 9 million total viewers who checked in for last year’s premiere, which was already one of the lowest ever for the series. CBS won the night by rolling out new episodes of its strong Monday sitcoms.

CBS wound up with a 3.7 average rating for the night in adults 18-49, well ahead of ABC (2.4 average), NBC (1.7), Univision (1.6) and Fox (1.2). CBS also finished with a comfortable lead in total viewers, averaging 11.9 million to 7.2 million for ABC, 5.1 million for NBC, 3.8 million for Fox and 3.7 million for Univision.

Average ratings for the CBS comedies, in adults 18-49, were: 3.9 for “How I Met Your Mother” at 8 p.m.; 4.3 for “2 Broke Girls” at 8:30; 4.4 for “Two and a Half Men” at 9 p.m.; and 3.8 for “Mike & Molly” at 9:30 p.m. The network slipped to a 2.9 for “Hawaii Five-0” at 10 p.m.

ABC made it close at 10 p.m., premiering “Celebrity Wife Swap” but settling for a 2.4 in the 18-49 demo.

NBC’s highlight was “Fear Factor” at 9 p.m. with a 2.4 in 18-49.
