Meredith Vieira Reportedly in Discussions for a Daytime Talk Show, Could Compete Head-to-Head With Her Old Show NY Times
Meredith Vieira is reportedly in talks with NBCUniversal about hosting a syndicated talk show, possibly for a fall 2014 debut, The New York Times' Media Decoder reports.
Vieira's show could air at 11 a.m. in some markets, which would place it head-to-head against "The View," where she was a co-host for the show’s first nine years. She left that program to replace Katie Couric on NBC’s "Today." As Couric now hosts her own daytime talk show, the two could also end up competing, the piece points out.
NBC syndication executives are most likely positioning the show to air in the slot occupied by "The Jeff Probst Show," which in many markets airs at 2 p.m.
NBC's 10 owned-and-operated stations carry Probst's show, but it's underperforming when compared with other new shows, including Couric's program, the piece points out.
