Showtime has given a series commitment to a drama series from "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes and writer John Logan, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

The period drama, “Penny Dreadful,” will include literary characters such as Dorian Gray and Dr. Frankenstein and is called a "psychosexual horror."

"The visual spectacle combined with the psychological insight in their reimagining of these iconic literary characters seems totally mesmerizing to me. This promises to be a wholly original television show," Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins said.

The drama, which will tape in London, will be fast-tracked for a 2014 debut, the story adds.
