ABC Can’t Seem to Settle on a Name for New Action Series

ABC appears to be having trouble making its mind up about a title for an upcoming series. EW.com’s Inside TV reports that the network has been flipflopping about naming its new Joss Whedon action series, which was originally called “S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Earlier this month, ABC appeared to be going with “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” as previously reported.

EW.com’s James Hibberd writes: “We heard that the change was due to a potential legal conflict with FX’s former cop series ‘The Shield.’ But adding the Marvel studio name struck some (OK, us too) as kind of unnecessarily corporate-y. In any case, ABC would not confirm the new title nor the reason for the apparent change.”

Hibberd notes that the network has now “quietly changed the show’s official Facebook page from ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ to … ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ … The switch had some fans wondering if the studio branding was now going bye-bye. But no, we’re hearing ‘Marvel’s’ will likely remain a part of the title regardless of what the social networking page says (and that, once again, the title may still change).”
