What’s Holding Up the Debut of Al Jazeera’s New U.S. Network?

Al Jazeera America, the new network created from Al Gore’s Current TV, may not be ready to debut until Labor Day, although it has an internal goal of starting in June, reports the New York Post.

Given that the network hasn’t hired a news chief, finished its studio or found office space, it’s unlikely to meet the June goal, the story says.

International executive Ehab Al Shihabi has reached out to respected names in television, such as former NBC News chief Steve Capus and former CNN executives Jon Klein, David Bohrman and David Doss, but no one has bitten, the story says.

One executive, who wasn’t named, said he was squeamish about the network’s funding. Al Jazeera is backed by the Qatari government.

  1. Big deal, so they are funded by Qatar. The Saudi government (a family prince) funds Fox.
