Fate of ABC Show Hangs in the Balance as One of Its Stars Is Blocked From Returning to Work

The future of an ABC series remains unclear after one of the show's stars ran into problems trying to get back to work. The U.K. publication The Daily Mail reports that ABC hasn’t yet made a decision on whether “The Taste” will return for a third season, after television chef Nigella Lawson was banned from re-entering the U.S.

As previously reported, Lawson was barred from flying to the U.S. after she confessed in a U.K. court case that she had used cocaine. The U.S. can decide to bar foreigners who have allegedly committed drug offenses even if they haven’t been charged.

The show finished production on its second season a while ago, with its finale airing in February. Lawson is one of the judges on the cooking show.

Lawson's “Taste” co-star Anthony Bourdain came out in support of Lawson, writing on Twitter, “I am absolutely mortified with embarrassment over the cruelty and hypocrisy of US actions re: #Nigella travel. Unbelievable.”

The report quotes a source saying: "Nigella is obviously the big selling point for the show — she's a big draw — and if she's denied entry to the U.S. and a visa to work here, then the future of the show is in doubt."

Lawson has been invited to apply for a visa by the U.S. Embassy in London, but she could face a drug test, the piece reports.
