Cinemax is moving forward with a project based on a series of novels about a contract killer. Deadline.com reports that the pay-cable channel ordered a pilot for "Quarry," a drama based on a novel series by Max Allan Collins.

The project is about a Marine sniper who returns from Vietnam in 1973 and finds himself demonized by the public. He’s recruited into a network of contract killers.

Collins also wrote the graphic novel “Road to Perdition.” The pilot is being written by Graham Gordy and Michael D. Fuller, according to the report.

The story adds: “John Hillcoat is set to direct the pilot, co-produced by Anonymous Content. Hillcoat, Gordy and Fuller, all Anonymous clients, executive produce with Anonymous’ Steve Golin, David Kanter, Matt DeRoss and Keith Redmon.”

The order comes after Cinemax renewed its freshman drama "Banshee," the piece notes.
