ABC Renews 'According to Jim'

ABC has given a belated renewal to veteran comedy “According to Jim,” sources close to the deal said.

The network has ordered 18 episodes as a midseason replacement. The decision comes more than a month after the network’s upfront presentation, when such programming decisions are typically announced.

Although ABC’s dramas such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Lost” have scored with viewers, the network has had a difficult time cultivating a successful comedy block.

“Jim” averaged a 2.3 rating among adults 18 to 49 in the most recent season, where it ran in varying time periods as the network tried out different scheduling scenarios. “Jim” debuted in 2001 to a 4.2 average.

“Jim” is a production of ABC Television Studio in association with Brad Grey Television. The network and studio had no comment.

This is a good example of why people are turning off Network TV more and more...This is probably one of the worst comedies they had on the schedule..I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye...

Well Disney produces and syndicates the show after all... so 18 more episodes means 18 more episodes to sell to stations who are committed to buying the series

You Communist homosexual ivory-tower intellectual elitist snobs who hate America haven't figured out that real people in the real world who work for a living *like* "According to Jim" because it is wholesome family entertainment. But you Communist homosexuals hate wholesome family entertainment--you want practicing homosexual Marc Cherry's pornographic perversion "Desperate Housewives" and more homosexual deviancy and pornography on the air. NOT IN MY AMERICA!

Oh yes, Communist homosexuals--how big was your celebration on Sept. 11?

I am extremely happy to see that "According to Jim" has been renewed for 2007! It contains interesting storylines, hilarious physical comedy, and I love the relationship between Jim and Cheryl as well as Jim and Andy. One of the few shows that actually makes me laugh out loud. I end up watching at least an episode a night with the various channels airing re-runs but am glad that new episodes are on the horizon. Speaking of which, my TiVo is about to switch channels to an "According to Jim" re-run. Gotta run...

Glad that there's something for which I can look forward for the year of TV 2008 in the german area. In two weeks, on our TVs the runs of 2006 will start - finally. I like the subtle, but not too sophisticated humour with which in this comedy real life is parodically portrayed in an affectionate mood.

I am very glad to see Jim come back. Jim is A very funny family sitcom. The telivision industry was built on family sitcoms. We need more of them and less reality shows. It's time the networks woke up and revive the family sitcom.

I love this show, for all the idiots out there that can't love a good comedy, good family show, good characters and good story lines are so very very stupid!!!!!!!! If only America had loving families like this one, we would be a better country. You know yourself, there are men out there like Jim. He is a loving husband, father and family man, but he just can't help his manly mistakes. His heart is good and you can tell by his family that he is very much loved. So you idiots out there putting down this show, just watch your weird shows about men dressing other men and of the very boring reality shows that have run their course.

I strongly agree with other comments about how TV lacks GOOD FAMILY SITCOMS. Thank you ABC & Bless the whole cast and crew of " according to Jim ".
