Cox Adds Four HD Discovery Networks to Cable Lineup
Cox Communications on Wednesday announced it will be adding four high-definition networks from Discovery Communications.
High def simulcasts of Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and the Science Channel will be rolled out on a market-by-market basis, the company said. Customers will be able to see such shows as “Deadliest Catch,” “Dirty Jobs” and “Meerkat Manor.”
“The programs featured on these channels are ideally suited for delivery in high definition,” Pat Esser, president of Cox Communications, said in a statement. “As our customers’ appetites for HD content grow, we will continue to expand our HD lineup with high-quality programming to ensure that we offer a robust selection of the best HD channels in our markets. In fact, we have dozens of new HD channels slated for launch this year.”
Cox will continue to offer programming from Discovery’s stand-alone HD network, HD Theater.
“We are pleased to be working with our longtime partners at Cox to bring their customers HD simulcasts of Discovery’s most popular networks and to help drive greater adoption of HD services,” said David Zaslav, Discovery Communications’ president-CEO.
The actual HD channel lineup will vary by market, Cox said.
Cox Communications is the third largest cable television company in the U.S. and has more than 6 million total residential and commercial customers.
