Everyone knew that when Google aquired YouTube, it would only be a matter of time before it became Google Video (useless). Thankfully, there are many other media sites growing rapidly because of this. There is a limit to how many Google can buy and ruin.

How ridiculous. Ms. Minelli's interests are not represented by amateur fans who videotape her performances without official permission. Perez thinks he is his own beginning and end when it comes to legality and the photo credits that accompany his childish little scrawl pictures "borrowed" from photo services is proof that he isn't. Not only is YouTube "over" as one other reader correctly points out, but Perez Hilton is over -- He jumped the shark with me last month by basically encouraging Amy Winehouse to continue her downward spiral to an inevitable overdose just to keep his daily hit counts up there. I'm glad Lindsay Lohan cleaned up her act because she was his #2 draw and basically is not generating coverage anymore. If every other pinhead celebrity out there learned her lesson Perez would be back on unemployment & living with his parents, which is where he belongs.

Most concert venues and artists have policies against unauthorized video and photography. In addition, the material Liza Minnelli was performing is probably covered by copyright law. And her performance in iteself is copyrighted. The amateur who shot the video does not have the right to broadcast or redistribute the video. The only right the videographer has with this video is the right watch it in the privacy of their own home. Any other use is strictly prohibited by copyright laws.

I have to agree with many of the other posters. Yes, I hate Perez. And yes, I hate youtube. I used to watch it but now its nothing but garbage. I recently received my hulu invite and can say that the video quality is great. I think that youtube has gone down the drain and will be gone within a year.

There is such a thing that is called "right to publicity" which allows people to have some control of their image and likeness. It is why Paris Hilton can try and sue for the use of the phrase "it's hot." It's hard to enforce in the public eye -- like the paparazzi photos -- though not unheard of.

That Liza footage was not taken in a public place, as far as I know, and she does own the right to protect her image in that situation. That’s why they make the announcement that recording is prohibited at concerts. Just because the person said Perez could use it doesn't mean he can.

It would be like someone letting you use a car they stole. It doesn't matter if they said you could drive it. It's still stolen and the original own can take it back.

While I dont agree with a lot of the stuff that he does on his site, it is his site and he has the freedom to state his opinion under the constitution, weather we agree or not. I can understand Youtube taking aggressive action after a 1 BILLION dollar lawsuit! Why would Viacom feel the need to sue for that much? I think that was a crazy and greedy move on Viacom's part. If anything they could profit from the exposure Youtube offers. That's what happened with the Chappelle's Show DVD's. Clips were on the internet everywhere, and the DVDs still sold like hotcakes.
