Disney’s broadcast and cable units are going to share the launch of the new original made-for-TV movie “Camp Rock.”
The movie, which stars pop sensations the Jonas Brothers, will premiere in the U.S. on Disney Channel, ABC’s “Wonderful World of Disney,” ABC Family, Radio Disney and Disney.com from June 20 through June 23.
Walt Disney Records is releasing the soundtrack album June 17 and a DVD goes out Aug. 19.
Disney is hoping to replicate the success of “High School Musical,” which started as a Disney Channel movie and has spawned billions in revenue through sequels, album sales, a touring live version and other licensing deals.
“Our ability to harness the strength of the entire television group and work with other lines of business to help launch a potential new franchise for the company is what differentiates us among our peers,” said Anne Sweeney, co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of the Disney-ABC Television Group. “This will be evident to everyone beginning Friday, June 20, when the world will be treated to an unprecedented rollout of song and dance with our new Disney Channel original movie ‘Camp Rock.’”
“Camp Rock” preview clips will be available on Disney Channel on-Demand beginning June 16.
After it premieres the movie on June 20, Disney Channel will air a sing-along version June 28. Lyrics to the movie’s song will appear on the screen and will be available via DisneyChannel.com.
