AMC Renews ‘Breaking Bad’

AMC will cook up a second season of its critically acclaimed drug drama “Breaking Bad.”

The network announced the renewal Wednesday of the series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and created by Vince Gilligan. It stars Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a terminally ill teacher who manufactures and sells crystal meth to support his family.

“Breaking” is part of a recent original programming lineup that AMC says has resulted in its most-watched quarter ever across all key demographics. It’s the second original drama produced by the network, on the heels of the similarly lauded period drama “Mad Men.”

“‘Breaking Bad’ is a powerful, intelligent and thought-provoking series that clearly resonated with viewers and critics alike,” said AMC Executive VP/General Managert Charlie Collier in a statement. “We're excited for a second season of ‘Breaking Bad’ with new and provocative storylines that will delve deeper into the next chapter in the life of Walter White.”
