MTV Rebrands HD Music Channel as Palladia
MTV Networks’ high-definition music channel MHD will change its name to Palladia effective Sept. 1.
“It’s a bigger, more distinct name for a channel that has grown in size as well as satisfaction among music HD fans,” said Tom Calderone, the executive VP/general manager of VH1 who oversees Palladia. “We’re also reinforcing that the channel is the home for an increasingly broad range of musical styles and artists in high-def performances that can’t be seen anywhere else. We believe these changes will help our distributor partners as they continue to sell HD and strive for the best content.”
Palladia will offer more exclusive programming as part of its evolution, kicking off with “Outdoor Music Week” the first week of September. The lineup of outdoor music concerts will feature Madonna, Usher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Who, Green Day, Genesis, Jay-Z, Amy Winehouse, Foo Fighters, Kanye West, David Bowie, Snoop Dogg, Sugarland, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dierks Bentley, Hank Williams Jr., Queen, Will Smith and the Rolling Stones.
Palladia also will host “Hip Hop Weekend” Oct. 4-5, “Classic Rock Movie Week” Nov. 10-16 and “Best of 2008 Week” Dec. 22-28.
The channel’s regular lineup will feature a different concert every Saturday at 9 p.m. and films from the channel’s collection of rock movies every Thursday at 9 p.m.

Looking forward to seeing the change.
Hope my cable provider carries this new HD channel.
If requests are taken I would like to see the following concert
Sheryl Crow and Friends Live From Central Park. I was at this 1999 free concert and have seen it air once on VH1.
Thanks. And Good luck.

Was going thru my HD channels and saw this new renamed channel. I had no idea what it was and was a little angry that Cox might have replaced MHD with it, but now I see that is is the same. Cox is notorious for making changes without letting their customers know. And for stretching the truth!
jim
cox has no control over a channel changing its name. why would they contact you to tell you another company is changing the name of a channel.
Steve
THE NEW FORMAT SUCKS! YOU CAN"T LOOK AHEAD BECUASE IT SAYS TBA on 90% OF THE LISTINGS...AND THERE WAS COOL STUFF TO WATCH>>>>THERE'S BEEN NOTHING WORTHWHILE SINCE THE CHANGE...GO BACK TO THE OLD FORMAT

MAURICE: WATCHED THE DAVE MATTHEWS BAND IN HD
LAST NIGHT. WHAT A GREAT CONCERT,
THOSE GUYS CAN REALLY PLAY!!!

Get ready for HD reality shows! MTV turns every channel they own into crap.
Jagus
They may have changed the name but they will still show the same 10 shows over and over again. How about instead of changing the name of the network why don't they change the person who programs the network? How about showing new music videos instead of the sames ones over and over?
Or better yet show MTV shows that are filmed in HD like "the Hills" or "Run's House".?
Lisa
Watching the Green Day show..great live videography. I'm excited to see what else is in store for this network.

As of this moment I have seen an amazing Dave Matthews concert from Atlanta, caught Ryan Adams and the Cardinals in Jamaca and an increddible, rockin' show of GREEN DAY! Who can argue with that? The truth is in the pudding, well the pudding will not be ready for a while yet. Since the re-named station is NEW with 'introductory' features. We'll have to wait and see, I say continue with the concerts, Not only "Saturday Night". That is where the interest is. Rock Doc. concerts! Make this the best 'Music Station' ever, I fare you.

I couldn't figure out just what the name "Palladia" meant on the simply incredible Dave Matthews concert, so googled it and found this article. If that concert is an indicator of things to come, it will be great! I had been mistrustful of the MTV brand until MTVHD was launched. The concerts I've seen so far have been quite good. Looking forward to Clapton.
Jessica
Yeah, all they need is to get some decent bands on there now. String Cheese Incident Live From Red Rocks HD is a suggestion. I've worked with MTV before and they are slow to do anything, so don't expect much from this channel for awhile.
Frank
So far so good , looks great in HD
Barbra
Love the channel but so upset I missed the Sugarland concert tonight. Hoping it will be shown again. DMB was great!Steve, I was at the Sheryl Crow CP show in '99 and have the complete broadcast on dvd if you need? E-mail me: taco418@aol.com. thanks, b

Where can I find listings for the channel?? The shows listed on my comcast box are not right. It says that it is supposed to be unplugged right now, but it is some music festival with David Bowie....Where can I find REAL listings????
Tony
Will Palladia still be hosting shows like "Crossroads?" I hope they stick to airing the higher quality "classic" stuff and not get uverwealmed by airing a lot of the new music that isn't very good. Like rap and that bubble gum stuff.
If it's just a name change and the programming is similar...then everything will be OK. If it turns into another MTV...then I won't be watching.
Annette
Finally a change for the better, I hope. No more repeated crappy videos & concerts! Please keep up withe the rest of the world already! MTV 120 minutes rules in England/ Europe & they show lil' bit of everyone from around the world! Let's push things forward!

I agree with Jagus, basically the same concerts. I would like to see more hard rock and heavy metal concerts in HD, everybody is not into Top 40.But do not start showing reality shows in HD because that would be an insult to true music lovers, that is the reason MTV is so bad and unwatchable.
K-Rock
Looks like Palladia is completely its own channel now and trying to set itself apart from MTV. MHD never aired reality shows in the past, so I doubt that Palladia will air reality shows in the future. Afterall all the promos are completely focused on the fact that it is a music channel. I think this outdoor music week looks pretty great. The DMB and Green Day concerts look and sound amazing. I Can't wait to see future premieres on Palladia!
Jerry
I believe this is a metamorphosis of a relatively new channel; be it what it may.
I only hope that the programming will stay true to the music and not evolve into the reality crap that seems to be infiltrating all the other affiliates which I no longer watch.
Bill
So far I am not impressed. All clips no real concert. As I write this blog the Stones are preforming, I guess it can only get better.
Bill
I agree. So far not impressed.Same things over, and over again.Did like Dave Matthews Concert.Seem's like everything else was a carry over from MHD.
To bad changeing the name didn't change the programing.
tj
Nothing compared to RAVE. It had no commercials and played 24/7.

the jay-z storytellers performance they had was an absolute classic. i have that cd over about 4 different kinds of beats and love every one of them. my favorite album ever.
Dan
It would be great to see the 2000 MTV/VH1 concert from Seattle,WA for the opening of the Experience Music Project (EMP) music museum. It featured The Eurythmics, No Doubt, Matchbox Twenty, Alanis Morissette, Beck, Metallica, Dr. Dre with Eminem and Snoop Dogg, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kid Rock and Filter.
Wes
Having read the blog, have to agree that it appears to be more of the same. Creativity seems to be a dead art, keep showing the same and they will come? -W

It is about time there is a music channel that does play music. I am so tired of so called music channels with little or no music.........just reality shows and these people have no idea of what reality even means........
Palladia...keep it up..........everything I have watched and listened to has a 9-10 on a scale of 1-10......thanks for keeping the commercials down to one at a time...........I have even got my wife asking what is playing on the channel at night.......that is something..........many thanks
vernon
Blah, blah, blah. Same old, same old stuff. Just keep repeating and repeating. Watch the station for one week and you have seen everything. Yeesh!!
Jesse
I'm very impressed with the video and sound quality of the content on Palladia. Great stuff!!
Edie
When I first found this channel I thougtht great finally "videos." I loved MTV and VH1 until they started putting reality crap shows on. When a person turns on a video channel they expect videos or at least concerts, etc. And MTV and VH1 can go HD all they want but it will still be reality crap. However with this channel I was finally able to enjoy videos. But, that lasted just a couple of weeks until I realized that it is the same old videos over, and over, and over. When are they going to put new videos on????
caroline culler
how do you get tickets to the shows on TV and where are they filmed?
mark
the programming at Palladia is cool. I love concert videos
but the ones produced by MTV are unwatchable.
the director of these concerts has no clue about music and relys on quick swooping camera shots and cuts to a different camera angle within 3 seconds
this is no way to watch a concert. I appreciate the music though and MTV cant destroy that too much.

ONE QUESTION NO ONE IS ASKING IS (what is the meaning of the name Palladia)? and who picked it?
email me mejw2@sympatico.ca
Gary
I have a better question...how the hec do I attend ANY of these small venue concerts?? I saw Train and wondered how you would attend a venue like that with only about 200 people??!!
Kathy
I love the show. Great concerts. Crossroads is my favorite...Def Leppard was awesome!!
roger
Just got HD and found this channel. I haven't watched MTV or VH1 in years as it turned to garbage reality TV etc. As on old rocker that remembers the day when MTV was all videos I can only hope the format that I've been watching today stays. Love the concerts and videos!
Jay
Ting Tings.. were just playing and I cannot understand any station giving them air time. What a waste of time to hear a drummer and a goofy woman trying to sing? Or whatever you call it.
Leonora
Loved John Legend...with these two female backup singers... I'm out of the loop and want to know the song they sang...absolutely wonderful!!!
eddie
Love your channel, question when are you going to play music hall of fame tributes again especially the dave clark five??????
blackdog
A good move on MTVs part. No one really thinks of MTV when they think of music anymore...just teen age reality shows. Keep the music rolling in HD/
Mac Scalf
Just tuned in to the last 5 minutes of Jeff Beck, can't find it on schedule again past 6/9/2009. Please tell me it's going to replay, and when.
Cyndi

On Palladia, I watched Tina Turner in Holland which was awesome. There is no DVD available of this that I can find and I can not find anyway to contact Palladia to inquire. Need help.
