ABC’s decision to screen the full pilot for “Modern Family” seems to be paying off—at least with the Twitterati.
Modern Family
The early feedback from TV reporter types who’ve been Tweeting ABC’s upfront has been positive, bordering on glowing.
“‘Modern Family’ may not be as groundbreaking as (Steve) McPherson tried to suggest, but it’s *really* funny and likable,” wrote Dan Fienberg, critic for HitFix.com.
“It’s freakin’ funny,” raved Maria Elena Fernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Aaron Barnhart of TVBarn.com also seems to like the show: “I think what’s working for me about ‘Modern Family’ is they drove just beyond the city limits of Sitcomcharacterville.”
Ditto Debra Birnbaum, editor of TV Guide: “ABC’s new sitcom ‘Modern Family’ looks hysterical! We’re all cracking up. Can’t wait for more this fall.”
One gloomy Gus: James Poniewozik, TV critic for Time: “Plenty funny but not especially commercial,” he wrote. “Little like ‘Sons and Daughters’.”
Also a bit skeptical: Andrew Hampp of Advertising Age. “Holy crap ABC really is showing the entire pilot of ‘Modern Family’ at their upfront. They’ll regret this when they cancel it by Xmas.”
