A fixture of television whose acting career goes back to the 1950s is a newlywed, having just got married to a woman less than half his age, E! Online reports.

Dick Van Dyke, 86, married his makeup artist, Arlene Silver, 40, on Feb. 29.

Van Dyke is best known for his 1960s sitcom “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” on which he starred opposite Mary Tyler Moore. He has remained a presence on TV ever since, notably as the star of “Diagnosis Murder” from 1993-2002.

Van Dyke said of the wedding: "Kinda on the spur of the moment, we just decided Leap Day would be the best time to do it."

The story reports: “The veteran actor met Silver six years ago at the SAG Awards, where, according to Van Dyke, he was ‘bowled over by her beauty.’ He hired her as his personal makeup artist and the two became friends. But within the last couple of years, they ‘fell in love.’"

  1. Just married? You are probably reeling from the big day. Once it has all settled down and you’ve written all those thank you notes, do the next most important thing: purchase a life insurance policy. I work with IntelliQuote where they know you’ll sleep better knowing your spouse and your future family are protected. IntelliQuote is a great place to start to get an idea of how little that sound sleep can cost you. http://bit.ly/AbaxU9
