How Does ‘CBS Evening News’ Anchor Scott Pelley Feel About Being in Third Place? Not Great

"CBS Evening News" anchor Scott Pelley isn’t happy that his newscast is in third place, reports the New York Post.

"I hate it,” he said. “It drives me crazy all day every day. It’s awful. CBS should be first, not third."

He added, "But at least we’re a competitive third now. We’re close to overtaking ABC in the [news demo]. Our headlights are in their rearview mirror.”

When Pelley took over the newscast from Katie Couric it trailed "The NBC Nightly News" and ABC’s "World News" by much larger margins. Since then, Pelley and CBS have started to close the gap, and “Evening News” was the only network newscast to show a spike in the 25-54 demographic — the key news demo — for the season.

"There’s an enormous curiosity about why a network evening news broadcast like ours is up 1 million viewers over two years — which is counter to every trend we’ve seen in broadcast TV,” Pelley said. “Why? People are looking for a place they can get all the news they’re curious about in one small bite.”

  1. Just continue the good work
I have changed from Brian on NBC

  2. “boo-hoo – I’m in 3rd place”… Scott, friend, listen closely to what I am about to tell you… CBS News may be in 3rd place among the broadcast networks for news… but in reality CBS News is a distant 1,212th in how people get news nowadays. Be thankful Scott that the networks are still ignorant to this fact and are still cutting you an overwhelmingly too high a paycheck.
You are welcome for this wake-up call, Scott. Moron.

  3. Yes, I agree. Keep it up. I,too, have switched from NBC and I’m happy I did.

  4. I used to watch Brian Williams and NBC Newd as well until he got so full of himself. Scott Pelley brings Old classic news reporting back to Network television. Great work.

  5. Maybe if Scott actually showed up for work FIVE DAYS A WEEK, and was not off so often, he might have a chance. I am about ready to give up on him and return to Brian Williams. He is incessantly away. Is he an egotist sulking over third place?
If he doesn’t want the job, then give it to somebody who does.
