Actor Dermot Mulroney, known more for his work in feature films, is joining a TV dramedy series. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Mulroney, whose big-screen career includes popular films such as “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” "About Schmidt" and "August: Osage County," is joining Showtime’s “Shameless.”
Mulroney will tackle a season-long arc as recovering addict Sean Pierce, who becomes Fiona’s new manager at Patsy’s Pies. The character will also serve as a love interest for Fiona, played by Emmy Rossum.
The casting reunites Mulroney with showrunner John Wells, who directed “August: Osage County.”
Mulroney has worked in television before, including recent stints on HBO's "Enlightened" and NBC's "Crisis."
