It is no surprise that public trust in comedian Bill Cosby has plummeted in the wake of mounting allegations that he sexually assaulted a number of women in the past. But the swiftness and depth of his decline have been remarkable, the British publication The Independent reports.
Last year, Cosby was No. 3 on the list of Most Trusted Celebrities alongside Tom Hanks and Kate Middleton; now he’s at 2,615, according to the publication, which cites the Marketing Arm, an Omnicom Group unit. The company told the paper that such a decline in public opinion is rare.
“Cosby’s social media popularity has also been significantly marred,” the report adds. “Networked Insights, which analyzes social media, has found that of nearly 700,000 comments made about Cosby in the first 20 days of November, a third of those were negative.”
