Jay Leno, Unlike a Number of Other Comics, Sides with the Women who Accuse Bill Cosby of Sexual Assault

“At the very end of an interview at NATPE/Content First, Jay Leno was asked about whether he thought the Bill Cosby situation was sad. ‘I don’t know why it’s so hard to believe women,’ he responded. ‘You go to Saudi Arabia, you need two women to testify against a man. Here you need 25.’

So reports Alex Ben Block today on the website of the Hollywood Reporter.

Leno’s comments are markedly different than the reaction by a number of other comics to the accusations against Cosby. For example, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and Kevin Hart have all said, basically, that they don’t really know what to believe. Comic and co-host of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg, has been openly skeptical of a number of the stories of Cosby’s accusers.

Lynette Rice, writing for People’s TVWatch, said, “Leno also spoke about how the scandal emerged after a viral video surfaced featuring comedian Hannibal Buress mocking Cosby. Buress [said,] ‘You rape women, Bill Cosby.’

“Buress ‘made a flat-out statement that reverberated around the world,’ Leno said. ‘On any other media that would have been edited. People are getting news unfiltered now.”
