More John Oliver: Why He Won’t Be Taking Over ‘The Daily Show’ When Jon Stewart Leaves

One of the names that seems to have been on many of short lists to replace John Stewart — at least in the mind of TV critics and some of the public — has been former “Daily Show” correspondent John Oliver.

After all, it was Oliver who did such a good job replacing Stewart last year when Stewart took time off to direct a feature film.

However, “HBO announced Tuesday that it had renewed the popular weekly news satire ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’ until 2017,” reports CNN Money. Each season will consist of 35 episodes the announcement said.

The article continues, “One poll by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee showed that 44% of its members wanted Oliver to take [Jon Stewart’s spot once he he retires.].”

Said HBO president Michael Lombardo, “We are incredibly proud to have John as part of the HBO family. His unique ability to deliver socially significant commentary week after week, along with his innate comedic brilliance, puts John in a class by himself.”
